Mary Brown & Constance Buchanan

Mary L. Brown, a retired biology teacher, who after forty-one years of teaching finally took the time to renew her interest in art - her first love- which began in the third grade with an artistic teacher and one local artist. 

After retirement from public education, her art training began with watercolors at Fewell Park in Rock Hill. Not wanting to limit herself to one medium, she also took classes in acrylics, pastels, colored pencils, and mixed media. Although successful in most media, she currently tends to flip back-n-forth between watercolors and acrylics, depending upon the subject matter and the purpose of the art. 

Her love of nature is reflected in her art, as it was in her choice of teaching biology and in her current volunteer work with the SC Aquarium. Her science background tends to be shown in her artwork as detailed and realistic and only sometimes with a hint of abstract. 

As in nature, she prefers the use of vivid colors, even with watercolors. She is still developing her own style, so she continues to take art classes and enjoys learning from other artists as well.
